RMH Mixer in UK
Sussex brothers
William and James Goodwin have bought the first RMH
triple auger mixer for their 700 cow dairy unit.
Aiming to cut down the number of mixes per day, this
large machine boast:
- three augers
- three axles (two of which are steering)
- net weight of 13.5 tonnes
- overall length of 9.5 metres
This is the third RMH that William
and James have used on their farm. Previously
they used a four auger horizontal mixer (630) and they
were also the first farmers in the UK to buy an RMH
twin auger mixer (WAV26). |

500
tonnes, 100 different rations a day
Richard Lloyd recently
returned from a trip to Israel where some of the worldwide
RMH distributors met together. There were interesting visits
to farms and feeding centres as well as technical briefings
at the production plant in Sderot.
Often we are questioned as to how far advanced Israel is in
the dairy industry. A large proportion of individual farms
run self-propelled feeders, justifying the costs through savings
in labour, time, fuel and feed usage. There are many feed-lots
spread throughout the country (most found on a Kibbutz) where
rations are mixed and either delivered out to farms in lorries
or collected from the site. The silage pits at Yitzhak are
huge, as can be seen in the photos. |

Richard remarked “It impresses
me everytime I visit the feeding centres - there are machines
everywhere working all day, but it operates smoothly and efficiently.”
This year at Yitzhak they made 14,000 tonnes of silage in 9
days! Here a control tower oversees the all t h e mixing
stations. There are five RMH VST40’s, twin auger extended
stationary wagons. Driven by electric motors, the augers are
capable of mixing a wide variety of ingredients. The mixed ration
is despatched into lorries via a specially built RMH chain and
slat elevator. On a typical day they mix 500 tonnes in
100 different rations. Each week they operate 24 hours per day,
6 days per week! The dairy industry and its associated
feeding production plants are impressive, professional and efficient.
The fact that so many of them use RMH machines is a testimony
to the quality and reliability of these mixers - whether trailed,
selfpropelled or stationary. |
